A little bit about me, the person behind vom Zamora!
I was born in Romania and immigrated to Canada at the age of seven. As far back as I could remember, I’ve always loved dogs. But it wasn’t until I was in my twenties that my love of dogs turned into a passion, and led me on many journeys. I have been involved in raising, training, and competing with dogs for approximately 17 years. I got my first dog, a female Siberian Husky, named Raven as a running buddy. But she had other plans for me, and a few years later I purchased a few more Siberian Huskies with wonderful racing lines tracing back to Europe and Alaska. I travelled to various parts in Canada and the United States racing in both the 4 and 6 dog purebred sled classes as well as the 1 and 2 dog skijor classes. I gained a great deal of knowledge on proper nutrition for such athletes as well as the intricate training that these dogs needed to race at top levels. Being part of this subculture was an amazing experience. But as the dogs became older, slowing down, and eventually passing over the rainbow bridge, I decided to hang up that time in my life.
In 2017, my husband and I purchased our first German Shorthaired Pointer from Aspenglow GSPs. I got Greta because I wanted a versatile breed that was up for lots of adventure. She changed the direction I would be heading! An amazing first dog that taught me the importance of relationship building, training, and competing in various performance sports I have never even heard of. But Greta also opened my eyes to the true development of the breed which was field and water hunting. Green as could be my husband and I learned the ins and outs of training and testing a hunting dog. We connected with some wonderful people, and attended and volunteered at field/water tests gaining more knowledge. It was all for cultivating Greta’s desire and happiness.
Skipping to a few years later, in 2019 We got another GSP, a male named Blaise from Shadowland GSPs. A firecracker of a worker! With Greta and Blaise, I learned and competed in competitive obedience, rally, scent detection, conformation, and field and water hunting tests with the CKC, AKC, and NAVHDA. Because of them, I gained a passion for many dog sports.
Currently, I am an Ontario Director with the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Canada (GSPCC) where I co-created the GSPCC Versatility Certificate Program encouraging members to learn and take part in various dog sport disciplines. I am also a rally obedience instructor and run Pointing Dog Workshops through Hunting in Harmony which I co-founded with my friend, Diana Hsu.
Lastly, We decided to import Wednesday from Catrinel Pauna of Karpaten Irbis Kennel. A very credible and proven kennel in both hunting performance and conformation showing. With a pedigree containing specific traits for hunting and proven dogs through generations of testing, I was very excited to experience what Wednesday had to offer! With her, I had the opportunity to learn about a whole new system of training and testing. One I never knew about but have found to be invaluable to preparing her and myself for what is now our favourite pastime activity, hunting. I would not be the trainer and competitor I am today if it wasn’t for these three dogs and the dogs before them. Each teaching me new things and allowing me to take part in various activities with them, as well as being wonderful members of the family. I have really enjoy the DKV/JGHV testing system and hope to continue learning for generations to come.
