Hunting
The ultimate goal and joy is hunting with our dogs. It's truly what they are bred for. We use testing to support and strengthen certain skills and behaviours such as obedience and cooperation. But ultimately, continuing to maintain their natural ability observed on wild game both on land and in water, allows for the total package of consistency to be carried in future generations.

Fall 2025
A cold day but so worth it for both girls.
Wednesday searched well and pointed several pheasants starting out with one on the side of a body of water. Rich took a few steps and it flushed. He missed but W couldn’t see because of the bushes and trees in the way. So a big jump she did into the ice water crossing and searching for the bird. Had to remove her coat as it was soaked. But she didn’t skip a beat. Many birds were in thick bushes and trees so a few more birds R couldn’t shoot. But alas, he got a good shot on a hen for her. Great day for W.
Adda waited patiently in the car for her turn. We drove to another location but sadly after a couple hours no luck. So we went back to our initial place to give her another opportunity. She then went on point near a pond. I looked but couldn’t see anything. Rich took a few steps and up came a beautiful dark blue/green rooster. This was going to be her first intentional shot bird but R missed startled by its flush. Actually glad he did, because she sighted its landing and went to the location going on point again after a small track. It then ran and R couldn’t shoot it. It was a runner and watching her track this rooster for about 300 meters (Rich thinks), and seeing it fly up from where she was, was a highlight! So proud of this youngster so far!

Adda also went pheasant hunting this fall for the first time. Lots of learning hunting simultaneously with other hunters and dogs around. She was not phased by the sounds of beep collar noises and random gunshots from other hunters. A new terrain compared to grouse hunting, she ranged well, tracked scent, and learned to moved on from feather piles of shot birds. She had some solid points which she held well. No shooting for her just yet, rather continuing to work on her joy of searching, tracking, locating and pointing birds. Funny enough, on her last point on a hen, as the bird flushed and flew off it smacked into a tree and landed on the ground dead having broken it's neck. Not what we ever imagined would happen but Adda was a lucky girl and also got to hold and do some retrieving with the hen she pointed! We are very happy with how she has been developing.
Our grouse hunting trip has come to an end but the memories will last forever. Puppy Adda had the time of her life gaining many amazing experiences. She learned how to maneuver on scent, sight, and tracking walking birds which led to some beautiful points. Her mom, Wednesday found us many birds which she pointed beautifully waiting for us to get to her in the thick bush. Being outside with the best company and scenic views is unforgettable. We can't wait to do it all again next year!
